An accurate and durable voice-coil housed linear actuator from BEI Kimco Magnetics

The new linear voice-coil actuator from BEI Kimco Magnetics, Vista, Calif. (www.beikimco.com), is said to provide better positioning, speed, and force control than pneumatic and hydraulic actuators. It features a self-aligning coil, which means customers do not need to provide bearings, making it easy to mount. In fact, actuators with surface-finished linear bearings have been customer tested and found durable enough to withstand 10 billion cycles. Further simplifying installation are the built-in shaft and AMP connectors, which eliminate the need for flying leads with terminals. Only a mating female connector is required for installation.

The unit measures 2.75-in. in diameter and 5.2-in. long. It generates a peak force of 60 lb with 416 W of input power and a continuous force of 17 lb. Its stroke is 1 in. The enclosed actuator can operate in harsh and dirty environments.
